Aftercare

Aftercare Steps

1. Listen to Your Tattoo Artist: Your tattoo artist knows best. Follow their specific instructions, as different artists may have slightly different aftercare routines.

2. Leave the Bandage On: Your tattoo artist will cover your tattoo with a bandage or plastic wrap. Leave this on for the time recommended by your artist, usually 2-6 hours.

3. Wash Your Hands: Before touching your tattoo, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water to reduce the risk of infection.

4. Gently Wash Your Tattoo: After removing the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Use your hands, not a washcloth or sponge, to avoid irritation.

5. Pat Dry: Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel. Do not rub or scrub the tattoo.

6. Apply a Thin Layer of Ointment: After drying, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, antibacterial ointment recommended by your tattoo artist. Use a clean finger to apply and avoid double-dipping into the ointment.

7. Keep Your Tattoo Moisturized: Apply a thin layer of ointment or a specialized tattoo aftercare lotion 2-3 times a day, or as recommended by your tattoo artist, to keep your tattoo moisturized.

8. Avoid Soaking Your Tattoo: For the first 2 weeks, avoid swimming, soaking in hot tubs, or taking long baths. Showers are fine, but avoid direct water pressure on the tattoo.

9. Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight for at least 4 weeks. After it's healed, use a high SPF sunscreen to prevent fading.

10. Avoid Scratching or Picking: Itching is a normal part of the healing process, but resist the urge to scratch or pick at your tattoo, as this can damage the design and lead to infection.

11. Wear Loose Clothing: Tight clothing can rub against your tattoo and irritate it. Wear loose, breathable clothing over your tattoo during the healing process.

12. Watch for Signs of Infection: Keep an eye out for signs of infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pain, or pus-like drainage. If you suspect an infection, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional immediately.

13. Be Patient: Healing times vary, but most tattoos take about 2-4 weeks to heal completely. Be patient and follow these aftercare instructions to ensure your tattoo looks its best.

If you have any questions or concerns about your tattoo's healing process, don't hesitate to contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional.
